CANVVS is a platform created to bring sneaker customisation from the underground into the public eye, providing a space for independent creatives and sneaker customisers to connect with a wider audience.
Working alongside CANVVS, STÜDYO.STUDIO developed a concept for a new immersive retail experience on Oxford Street, adjacent to Bond Street Station. The project reimagined the store as both a retail environment and a live customisation workshop, placing creativity, interaction and personal expression at the centre of the customer experience.
The concept introduced the CANVVS BL_NK sneaker as a starting point for customisation. Customers would be able to select their base sneaker before working alongside CANVVS TECHS, a collective of skilled sneaker technicians, to personalise their pair.
Customers could choose from a considered range of components and modifications. These included replacement tongue tags, custom laces, charms, personalised panels, laser-cut elements and subtle colour treatments. The intention was to make sneaker customisation more accessible while retaining the individuality and creativity of the customiser.
The store was designed as an active workspace, allowing visitors to engage directly with the process. Customers could explore examples of previous work, consult with a CANVVS TECH, and either return to collect their finished sneakers or remain in the space and watch their custom pair being created.
STÜDYO.STUDIO’s role was to develop and communicate the complete experiential concept, including the customer journey, spatial approach, customisation process and operational framework. The resulting proposal was developed as a tangible vision for the Oxford Street location and presented to Transport for London, the owner of the premises, to demonstrate how the space could operate and what the completed retail experience could deliver.
