Located within the basement of a building in Islington, this project transformed a compact 50m² space into a multifunctional environment for a sneaker authentication and sales platform.
The space was designed to support the day-to-day operational requirements of the Client, including receiving, authenticating, securely storing and dispatching sneakers, while also providing a more personal environment for clients to visit, view and experience rare and limited footwear.
A key challenge was balancing these contrasting functions within a relatively compact basement space. The layout was therefore organised around access to natural light, ensuring that the areas occupied most frequently by clients and staff were positioned within the brightest parts of the space. More enclosed areas were utilised for secure storage, stock management and operational activities.
Alongside its practical requirements, the space was designed to create a more immersive and considered client experience. Visitors could view and try on sneakers in a relaxed environment, discover new styles and spend time with the collection. A dedicated hospitality area incorporated a fully functional kitchen with facilities for refreshments, while vinyl decks formed part of the client experience, allowing music to become a personal and adaptable part of each visit.
The material palette was deliberately simple and industrial, combining the existing concrete structure with painted white walls, plywood surfaces and exposed metal conduit. The ceiling infrastructure was designed as a flexible system for lighting, wiring and additional features, allowing the environment to evolve alongside the changing requirements.
Designed and built by STÜDYO.STUDIO 2023, the project brought together operational efficiency, secure storage and a personalised retail experience within a single, adaptable space.
