Pilates Studio

Pilates by Ang is a reformer Pilates studio located in White City, London. Working alongside founders Fabrice and Angharad, the project was developed over a four-week period, from initial concept through to visualisation and working drawings for construction.

The ambition was to create something that felt more considered than a conventional fitness studio. A welcoming, high-end environment that reflected the lifestyle surrounding White City’s growing residential and creative community. The focus was not simply on Pilates as exercise, but on creating a sense of ritual, belonging and community around it.

The railway arch presented a number of spatial challenges. With glazed openings at both ends of the arch, the studio had excellent natural visibility and connection to the surrounding White City Living area, but very little inherent privacy. This became an important consideration given the predominantly female-led customer base.

A soft division between public and private spaces was introduced rather than completely enclosing the studio. Semi-transparent curtains were positioned across one of the glazed ends, allowing daylight and movement to remain visible while creating a more intimate environment for classes. Between the reception and reformer studio, a glazed door with frosted panels provides a further layer of privacy. The partition deliberately stops short of the ceiling, allowing the sound and energy of the classes to travel into reception and maintain a connection between the two spaces.

The resulting layout creates a gradual transition from the street into the studio from arrival and social interaction, through reception, and into the more private environment of the reformer room.

The final design balances the architectural character of the railway arch with a softer, more elevated hospitality-led approach, creating a studio that feels private, welcoming and aspirational without becoming overly formal.
